Northern Michigan Coffee Roasters

When it comes to coffee, northern Michigan is lucky to have a burgeoning number of roasters–shops that roast their own beans rather than buying them ready-to-brew from wholesalers. From Traverse City to the Upper Peninsula, these specialty roasters are creating nuanced and delicious coffees.

Michigan Coffee House: One of the most well-known coffee roasters in the state, RoosRoast has been around since 1998 and is a staple in the Petoskey area. They offer a wide variety of flavors and blends and are all about handmade, sustainability, and treating people well. Their Lobster Butter Love is a fan favorite and they’re now offering a canned cold brew that’s perfect for northern Michigan summers.

From Farm to Cup: Sabbath Coffee Roasters’ Commitment to Quality

The Office: A fairly new entry to the Metro Detroit coffee scene, The Office is a small, cozy spot that offers a wide range of coffees from around the world and also serves light food and desserts. Owners Craig and Kristen are passionate about coffee, and they pride themselves on sourcing quality beans directly from farmers. They’re also known for their roasting process, which produces an intense flavor that isn’t overpowering.

This family-owned coffee shop is a must-visit for those looking to experience northern Michigan culture and get some work done. They have a wide selection of beverages and a huge list of pastries and treats, including some of the best cheesecake I’ve ever tasted. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is perfect for working or chatting with friends. I’ve even spotted the occasional local musician playing piano in the corner!
